American Airlines announces new flight to Puerto Escondido

American Airlines is set to become the second international carrier to fly to the surf town of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, with flights starting Dec. 3, 2025.
American Airlines’ new route will connect the carrier’s hub at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) with Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM) year-round with flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
First international flight touches down in Puerto Escondido

Direct flights from the United States to the laid-back beach town of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, are now available as the sunny surf destination seeks to open up to new tourism markets.
The weekly flight, which launched on April 5, is serviced by United Airlines’ partner Mesa Airlines and departs from Houston, Texas, every Saturday.

As far as Mexican beach destinations go, the Oaxacan port town of Puerto Escondido hits all the sweet spots: It’s moderately developed, laid back, and caters well to tourists while remaining blissfully free of mega resorts and hordes of spring breakers that are staples of places like Cancún.
What you’ll find instead is a mix of affable locals, surfboard-wielding Aussies, backpackers, and wellness types, all commingling in a laid-back state sans shoes or shirts on the southern Pacific Coast.
New Superhighway, Oaxaca City to Puerto Escondido

New 104-kilometer superhighway connecting Oaxaca City to Puerto Escondido, a recently opened road that will no doubt be a win for fall and winter travelers heading into the area.
The Barranca Larga-Ventanilla Highway had been in the works for nearly 15 years, with the aim to dramatically reduce travel time to Puerto Escondido, the gateway to the state of Oaxaca’s stunning coastline.
